The Federal Government says 24.47 million Nigerians tested positive for malaria between January and September 2025. This is contained in the 2025 National Health Statistics Report released by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
According to the report, malaria testing and confirmed cases increased steadily across the three quarters, reflecting a worrying rise in infections—especially during the rainy season when mosquito breeding peaks.
From January to March, 10.5 million Nigerians were tested, rising to 11.4 million in the second quarter and 12.8 million in the third, totalling 34.8 million tests. Of these, 7.3 million tested positive in the first quarter, 7.8 million in the second, and 9.3 million in the third.
The report also shows a rise in malaria treatment. About 23.8 million people received Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT) within the nine-month period.
Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako, said the National Malaria Eradication Programme had recorded notable progress but stressed the need for sustained intervention to curb rising cases.
