The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced the introduction of new compulsory requirements for all Business Name Online Update requests, a change that takes effect immediately.

In a statement released on its official X handle on Wednesday, the commission explained that applicants must now submit additional personal and contact details designed to strengthen verification procedures and improve the accuracy of records associated with registered businesses.

According to the CAC, every Business Name Online Update request must now include the proprietor’s date of birth, the registered office email, proprietor’s email address, an active phone number for either the registered office or the proprietor (where different), as well as a valid means of identification.

The commission noted that these updated requirements are part of its ongoing reform efforts aimed at improving documentation integrity, curbing fraudulent activities, and ensuring that communication with business owners is seamless and more reliable.

By mandating these details, the CAC expects to enhance the efficiency of its database management, simplify compliance checks, and deliver more secure, responsive, and transparent services to entrepreneurs across Nigeria.

The commission urged all business proprietors to adhere strictly to the new guidelines, warning that failure to comply may result in delays or unsuccessful processing of update requests.

As Nigeria’s statutory body responsible for the registration and supervision of companies and business names, the CAC has, in recent years, intensified its digital transformation drive—transitioning from traditional manual processes to a modern, technology-driven platform aimed at making business registration and updates faster and more convenient.
