SAN Slams Naval Officer for Blocking Wike, Says It’s a Breach of Law

Altercation between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and a military officer.

A constitutional lawyer, Prof. Sebastine Hon (SAN), has condemned the naval officer who clashed with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja, saying his actions clearly broke the law.

Hon said Officer A.M. Yerima had no legal right to stop Wike from entering the disputed Gaduwa plot, stressing that “no superior order” can justify such defiance

He explained that military officers are not bound to obey illegal or unjust orders, citing Supreme Court rulings to back his point.

According to him, “No service law permits a serving officer to guard his boss’s private property. If there were security concerns, the police should have been called instead.”

Hon added that as FCT Minister, Wike represents the President in land matters and should not have been blocked, warning that the act was “an affront to civil authority.”

He also warned that celebrating such defiance could encourage lawlessness in the military.

The incident happened at Plot 1946, Gaduwa District, when Wike went to enforce a stop-work order on an alleged illegal site. Videos of the heated face-off quickly went viral online.

Speaking after the clash, Wike said, “I will not succumb to blackmail or intimidation by anyone.”
