ADC Upholds Expulsion of Kogi Lawmaker Leke Abejide

The National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress has approved the expulsion of Kogi federal lawmaker, Leke Abejide, confirming an earlier decision by the state chapter over alleged repeated acts of indiscipline.

The ratification, announced after the NWC meeting in Abuja, comes amid weeks of internal party disputes. The Kogi chapter had earlier written to Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, asking the House of Representatives to declare the Yagba Federal Constituency seat vacant.

In a statement on Thursday, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said the party maintains a zero-tolerance stance on misconduct, stressing that discipline and integrity remain central to its operations.

The NWC also directed the Kogi chapter to begin filling vacant positions at ward, local government, and state levels ahead of upcoming congresses.

Earlier, the Kogi ADC accused Abejide of gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and ignoring summons to appear before the Appeal Committee before his final expulsion on August 28. They also cited his public criticisms of the party on national media.

Abejide, however, has dismissed the move as illegitimate. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Public Communications, Bashiru Mohammed, his camp insisted the petitioners—Kingsley Temitope Ogga and Adaji John Udale—had themselves been expelled and lacked the authority to challenge his mandate.

He argued that their petition was driven by malice and that the constitutional grounds they relied on were being misinterpreted. Abejide’s team maintains he was duly re-elected and that his mandate remains intact, insisting the law and his supporters stand firmly behind him.
