The lawmaker representing Ipokia/Idiroko in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Bisi Oyedele (Citiside), has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to lift the ban on supplying petrol to communities within 20km of Nigeria’s borders.

In a statement on Sunday, Oyedele said the restriction, introduced in 2019 to curb smuggling, has only brought hardship to law-abiding residents of Ogun West.

He described the policy as “outdated, unjust, and harmful to the local economy,” stressing that many people can no longer access fuel for transportation, businesses, or daily needs.

Oyedele made the call during the inauguration of several constituency projects in Ipokia Local Government, including a renovated primary health centre, new classroom blocks in Ijofin and Ojuroko, and motorised boreholes across four communities.

He also urged the government to revive the long-delayed Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia, which he described as a vital institution for youth development.

In addition, he appealed for the speedy completion of the proposed Ipokia–Badagry Link Bridge, noting that it would boost trade between Ogun, Lagos, and neighbouring West African countries.

Oyedele thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun and Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) for their support, while community leaders praised the lawmaker for his accessibility and commitment to development.
