Dangote Refinery has dismissed a viral video claiming it is partnering with a company to deliver petrol through dispatch riders.
The company told our correspondent on Sunday that it has no connection to the clip and does not know its source.
The video shows a man avoiding fuel queues by ordering petrol via WhatsApp, after which a rider appears with a mini fuel dispenser attached to his bike. Branded “FuelUp” and allegedly “powered by Dangote Petroleum,” the clip stirred mixed reactions online, with some users praising the idea and others raising safety concerns. Some also suggested the advert might be AI-generated.
Dangote officials described the video as fake. Group Chief Communication Officer, Anthony Chiejina, said the refinery is not involved in any such initiative. Another official added that the refinery only sells fuel to bulk buyers and has no agreement with any bike-delivery service.
The refinery recently launched a direct fuel distribution scheme using imported CNG-powered trucks and is expanding its refining capacity from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day as part of broader investments in cleaner energy and improved logistics.
