Edo Govt Approves N1bn Soft Loans for Market Women

Okpebholo: Edo state Governor

Edo State has approved N1 billion in soft loans to support market women and boost their businesses. The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Eugenia Abdallah, announced this during a press conference in Benin City.

She said the initiative is part of the government’s SHINE Agenda and aims to help women at the grassroots expand their businesses and strengthen their livelihoods. About 54,000 women will benefit from training, microfinance access, and skills development.

Abdallah also highlighted the ministry’s work in supporting trafficked women, rape survivors, and victims of domestic violence by providing shelter, rehabilitation, and protection for their children.

She praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for prioritising women’s empowerment, noting that women currently occupy 35% of cabinet positions.

The commissioner added that skills centres in Uromi and Igarra have been revitalised, producing over 140 graduates in 2025, while the Evbuomodu Centre is being upgraded to expand training for women and youth.

Abdallah said the government remains committed to building a future where every woman and child in Edo can live with dignity and reach their full potential.
