Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has dismissed reports that he withdrew his legal action against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or endorsed the party’s planned national convention in Ibadan.
In a statement on his official Facebook page on Friday, Lamido called the reports “fake news,” noting they sparked concern among PDP members nationwide. He clarified that the Federal High Court had, earlier that day, affirmed his right to contest the PDP national chairmanship—a right he said was previously denied.
“I urge members to note that the story attributed to me is false. The Federal High Court today delivered a judgment affirming my right to contest the Chairmanship of the PDP,” he said.
Lamido added that the court ordered the suspension of the PDP’s convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan until the party complies with the ruling. The court also barred INEC from supervising or observing the event.
Debunking claims that he instructed his lawyers to withdraw the case after meeting Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Lamido described the report as “malicious” and “misleading.” He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing his rights through lawful means and urged members and the public to ignore the false narrative.
Earlier, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the PDP to suspend its convention. Justice Peter Lifu ruled that Lamido was unjustly denied the opportunity to obtain a nomination form for the national chairmanship, in violation of the party’s constitution. The court directed that the convention be put on hold to allow him to obtain the form, mobilize supporters, and conduct his campaign.
