The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), South-West Zone, on Thursday destroyed substandard and expired products worth over ₦20 billion at the Moniya dumpsite in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The items included falsified medical products, unsafe cosmetics, unwholesome foods, and expired goods seized from manufacturers, importers, distributors, and voluntarily surrendered by compliant companies.
Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, NAFDAC’s Director-General, represented by Deputy Director Florence Uba, said the exercise aimed to prevent these dangerous products from reaching the market and harming the public. She urged community leaders, health professionals, and journalists to educate Nigerians about the risks of unlicensed drug sellers.
NAFDAC thanked the Nigeria Customs Service, Police, Army, DSS, and other agencies for their support, emphasizing that public participation is crucial in the fight against substandard products.
