Brigadier-General Uba, a Nigerian Army commander, was killed by ISWAP terrorists after his location was reportedly traced following a successful joint air–ground operation.

The General had confirmed his safety to superiors after the operation and was regrouping with his team, but his communication may have inadvertently exposed his position. He was captured alive, briefly interrogated, and then executed.

The incident followed a joint military operation in which Nigerian Air Force aircraft intervened to rescue troops ambushed by ISWAP fighters along a booby-trapped route. Despite heavy resistance, the air strikes helped disperse the terrorists and secure the evacuation of soldiers and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) members.

Reports indicate the ambush, which occurred Friday night in Damboa, Borno State, left two soldiers and two CJTF members dead and led to the abduction of Brig-Gen Uba and two other soldiers. One abducted soldier was later freed, but the commander and two others remained missing.

Top military officials, including Operation Hadin Kai Theatre Commander Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, rushed to Damboa to coordinate rescue operations and boost troop morale. Brigadier-General Mustapha has been temporarily appointed to lead the 26 Task Force Brigade in Damboa
