President Bola Tinubu has approved the Nigerian delegation for the US–Nigeria Joint Working Group, aimed at strengthening security cooperation between both countries.
The approval follows a high-level visit to Washington DC by a delegation led by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, who will also head the multi-agency team.
According to a statement by Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, members of the team include:
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar
Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Bernard M. Doro
Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede
DG of the National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Mohammed Mohammed
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun
Idayat Hassan of the Office of the NSA and Paul Alabi of the Nigerian Embassy in the US will serve as secretariat.
Tinubu urged the officials to work closely with their US counterparts to implement all security agreements reached during the recent visit.
The Joint Working Group will coordinate both nations’ efforts on counter-terrorism, defence cooperation, and regional stability.
The renewed partnership comes amid heightened global attention, following recent pronouncements from US leadership expressing concerns over Nigeria’s security situation.
